Leavenworth switches on its half a million lights on Thanksgiving, and Christmastown starts the next morning. Downtown fills up fast. We're 7 minutes up the road, with the fire going and a white wine that fits the season.

Gewürztraminer is a big part of Washington's wine story. In the 1960s, a group of Seattle friends, several of them University of Washington professors, planted grapes in the Yakima Valley. One of them was Gewürztraminer. When the famous Napa winemaker André Tchelistcheff tasted a homemade batch, he called it the best Gewürztraminer made in the United States.

Gary's 2025 is crisp and dry, with enough ripe fruit to win over people who usually want something sweeter. It's the white for leftover turkey and a cold afternoon by the fire.

Something to tell your friends

Gewürz is German for spice. The Traminer part points back to Tramin, a village in the Alps of northern Italy where this grape family has grown for centuries.
